The Daily Mile brings smiles out in Longford!
Frank Greally, Athletics Ireland’s Ambassador for The Daily Mile, visited four primary schools in Longford town and county on Tuesday of this week, Scoil Eimear’s National School, Longford, Scoil Mhuire National School, Newtownforbes, Co. Longford, Melview National School, Longford and St. Mel’s National School, Ardagh, Co. Longford, they joined teachers and children in a celebration of fitness and wellbeing.
“It was an uplifting and joyous experience to see so many children taking part in The Daily Mile in Longford, the home of Irish mile record holder Ray Flynn”, Frank Greally said “I was joined on my schools tour by Donal Mulligan, Community Sport Development Officer at Longford Sports Partnership and Leslie Finnan, Juvenile PRO and Coach at Longford Athletics Club. They are both doing great work helping to promote The Daily Mile in Primary Schools all over the county.”
Irish Mile record holder Ray Flynn joined Frank, Donal and Leslie on their visit to Melview National School and received a rapturous welcome from teachers and children. Ray and Frank joined the children for The Daily Mile.
On Tuesday evening lots of adults and children joined with Ray Flynn for a Celebration Mile Run starting and finishing at St Mel’s College. The event was organised by Longford Athletics Club.
“It was wonderful to witness The Daily Mile in action in Melview National School,” Ray Flynn said. “It’s great to see Athletics Ireland and the Longford Sports Partnership working together to promote The Daily Mile into all the Primary Schools in the town and county. I would encourage all Primary School Principals to make The Daily Mile part of the school’s day.”
